Lexington is a city located in the US state of Kentucky, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 300,000, making it the second largest city in the state of Kentucky as well as the 66th largest city in the entire United States. It is also the principal city of the Lexington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of over 658,000.

Frontiersmen first came to the area in the mid 1770’s; a frontier town was quickly established, with a fort and everything, by 1775. The name was taken from the town in Massachusetts, and was actually named Lexington because of the first battle of the American Revolution (which occurred in Lexington, Massachusetts). Jefferson Davis and John C. Breckinridge, the President and Vice President of the Confederate States of America, were born in the city, and today the city is known as a major manufacturing city in the state of Kentucky.

During the summer months, average daily highs in the city reach into the mid 80’s during the day, with typical overnight lows dropping down into the mid-to-upper 60’s. During the winter months, however, the average daily highs in the city reach into the low 40’s during the day, with typical overnight lows dropping down into the mid-to-upper 20’s.
