The river itself was present when the city was founded, but due to massive amounts of irrigation the river has become a shadow of its former self; it is now supported by the City of Los Angeles to help keep the water level at a sustainable level for farmers.

Los Angeles resides in what is known as a Mediterranean climate – this means that summers are warm and dry, while winters are usually warm and wet. Los Angeles really only has one temperature: hot. Daily highs during the summer can reach upwards of 90 degrees, though average highs during the day hover in the mid-80’s. During the winter months, highs stay in the mid 60’s, though higher temperatures are usually common during December and into the first part of January.

Los Angeles is also home to many different sports teams in a variety of different leagues. Both the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who play in Major League Baseball, call the city home, as do the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers, who play in the National Basketball Association. Despite its size, it is not home to an NFL team (National Football Association), though it was once home to both the Raiders (who play now in Oakland) and the Rams (who play in St. Louis).
