Stockton was founded in 1848 by a German immigrant named Captain Charles Maria Weber. He wanted to mine gold during the beginning of the California Gold Rush, and as such decided to found his own little mining town. He formed a partnership with a man named William Gulnae because, as an immigrant, Weber could not acquire land directly. By the turn of the 20th century Stockton had become a huge manufacturing and shipping city, and while today the city has become modernized with most of its economy being high tech and service-based, manufacturing and shipping are still present.

During the summer months, the average daily highs in the city can reach into the high 80’s, though temperatures into the low 90’s are still common, especially in July. However, during the winter months, average daily highs in the city only reach into the low-to-mid 50’s during the day, with overnight lows often dropping down into the high 30’s.
