Wichita is a city in as well as the county seat of Sedgwick County, Kansas; according to the official US Census conducted in 2006 the population of the city was over 361,000, which makes it the largest city in the entire state as well as the 51st largest city in the entire United States. Wichita is perhaps best known for being the home of both Cessna and Beecher, the small aircraft manufacturing giants.

Wichita was founded in early 1863 as a small outpost that would occasionally help cattle drivers who drove cattle through the area. Wichita was known for years as a near-lawless town; as such, it was actually one of the first cities that the Women’s Christian Temperance Union visited during their quest to outlaw alcohol (which ultimately succeeded…sort of). Industry came to the city in the early 20th century as did a strong police force; today, crime in the city is at an all-time low, with the city council focusing their efforts on beautifying the downtown region.

During the summer months, average daily highs in the city typically top out in the upper 80’s during the day, with overnight lows dropping down into the low-to-mid 60’s. During the winter months, however, temperatures drop severely, with average highs reaching into the low 40’s and lows often dropping well below freezing overnight.
