Popular Car Shipping Methods
There are a few different car shipping methods that are available for you to choose from. Most vehicles are shipped via an open auto transport truck via a door to door route. This is considered the “standard” method of shipping a vehicle. Most quotes that you will get to ship your vehicle will be for these services. However, other options are available, notably terminal to terminal automobile shipping and enclosed auto transportation. These, however, are much different than the standard and require a bit of knowledge about when they are most useful. You want to find the appropriate services for your needs, after all, so make sure to research available methods thoroughly before making a decision.
What car shipping methods are available to me?
Outside of standard shipping the most common method of transporting a vehicle is via an enclosed automobile shipping carrier. Enclosed transportation services are available for any vehicle, but not just anyone should use them. Enclosed shipping is most often used for high-end, expensive vehicles. This includes antique cars, expensive sports cars, luxury vehicles – really, anything that you don’t really drive daily. Most vehicles that are shipped are daily commuter vehicles that accumulate a lot of miles. If the vehicle you’re shipping is one you enjoy rather than need, enclosed may be a good route.
Then there’s door to door vs. terminal to terminal shipping. As mentioned, door to door is the standard. This is where the carrier gets as close as they can to the pickup and delivery locations you provide. However, they can’t get everywhere, so sometimes it’s not always “door to door” exactly. But it’s still not terminal shipping in that you don’t have to drop your car off anywhere when you ship door to door. You still meet with the carrier at pickup and delivery and receive your vehicle directly. With terminal shipping that doesn’t happen. You drop your vehicle off at a terminal where it waits to be picked up. These can be useful, but not for everyone; terminal shipping can take longer and storage fees can end up making the shipment cost more.
