Ford Ranger Automobile Transport
The Ford Ranger is currently one of the Ford Motor Company’s longest-running truck lineups – it will be 30 years old when the 2014 models are released. Introduced in 1983 as a 1984 model, the Ranger has been Ford’s go-to light pickup truck; it has undergone numerous radical transformations over the years, but at the core it has remained a lightweight, daily-driver pickup that can haul some furniture or a large barbecue. It’s meant to be an everyman’s pickup, a far cry from the Super Duty lineup that caters more toward people who work in logging, construction or other types of physical work where lots of hauling is required. The Ranger currently is sold in three unique models: the XL, XLT and Sport, with each increase in price and standard features. The Ranger, because it has changed little over the years, especially in size and weight, is typically not a difficult car to find an auto transporter to carry, as it’s not overweight and usually it’s not too big in terms of the size of the frame.
The XL starts at $18,160 and features a 2.3L DOHC I4 engine, which is capable of 143 horsepower as well as 154 ft-lbs of torque. The XLT, however, comes with two different options: a 2.3L DOHC I4 or a 4.0L SOHC V6, which gives more power and towing for pretty much the same gas mileage as the other, smaller engines – 22/27 mpg. The Sport, on the other hand, features the most powerful engine (and is also the largest Ranger model), which features 16/21 mpg and a bit more torque and horsepower than the XLT. The largest problem you’ll face when searching for a good auto transport company is if you’re shipping the Sport, which weight 5,960 pounds and is a fair bit larger than its smaller cousins – make sure to get the height and weight of your Sport before getting any true auto transport quotes, as it could affect the price of the vehicle.
The Ford Ranger is meant as an everyday pickup, and some of the older models are about as large as an old El Camino. Obviously, it’s not meant to be a real workhorse of a truck, so if you’re looking to purchase one to haul five hundred 2x4’s, you may want a larger truck. Typical things hauled in a Ranger are tools, furniture, landscaping stuff (such as gravel or soil). The Ranger features a pretty standard bed, but if you want something larger than a Ranger your best bet is the Super Duty lineup, as the Ranger bed typically isn’t the largest thing. Still, it’s a bit bigger than some of Toyota’s offerings, so there’s that.
